This is an older adventure from April 7. I wish I could back-date the entries, but sadly I can’t. The internet hates me.
Anyways, while Chris was at work on the weekend of the 7th, I decided to go up the shore of Maine (via Rt. 1) and once I it the Portland area, I decided to take my business west. I followed 302 out past Sebago Lake, Maine and up through Conway. Needless to say, Chris is absent on this trek.
I ended up at the Kancamagus Highway (my favorite place ever). This is what I got:

^ It was rather cloudy and stuff, but here is a shot of the east ridge from what I think was Fryeburg, ME.

^ Entering the White Mountain National Forest. <3 (We brake for moose!)

^ There’s really no telling you how CREEPY this was. It was like a scene straight out of Kubrick’s The Shining. I’m only about halfway up the mountain pass about now, but the trees in the snow make a PROFOUNDLY silent scene.

^ Starting to ascend. It’s a strange scene to see all this snow when you’re used to going up the pass exclusively in the summertime, when everything is alive and hopping.

^ Some plains at the halfway mark, headed westbound.

^ Just to give an idea as to how much snow was up there. It got higher and higher as I moved closer to the top.

^ I think this one was taken as I started to descend.

^ The sign for the pass at it’s highest elevation, buried in snow. Now, I realize 2,855 feet is NOT high at all, alright? But consider the ocean is only about an hour away. And the scenery and wildlife is so worth it.
Speaking of wildlife, I did see a moose this day. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the scene, some passer-bys had already frightened him into the thick forest and he was only visable if you watched for movement. I tried to take a video, but that obviously showed nothing.
I have seen a moose almost every time I’ve gone up this pass, so if you’re looking for a GREAT place to see the wildlife of New Hampshire, this’d be it.
In the summertime, we try and make the mountain pass for dawn as so we can catch the moose. My sister used to have video of a moose we found who stood calmly about 12 feet from us. Some jackass in her dorm decided to record over it. Sigh.
So yea. There’s the Kancamagus. I would have gotten photos of Sebago Lake and The Swift River, but everything was still snowed in. At the time, I was sincerely NOT dressed for snow travel. ^_^
