Update: Weekend Adventure April 7, 07

This is an older adventure from April 7. I wish I could back-date the entries, but sadly I can’t. The internet hates me.

Anyways, while Chris was at work on the weekend of the 7th, I decided to go up the shore of Maine (via Rt. 1) and once I it the Portland area, I decided to take my business west. I followed 302 out past Sebago Lake, Maine and up through Conway. Needless to say, Chris is absent on this trek.

I ended up at the Kancamagus Highway (my favorite place ever). This is what I got:

^ It was rather cloudy and stuff, but here is a shot of the east ridge from what I think was Fryeburg, ME.

^ Entering the White Mountain National Forest. <3 (We brake for moose!)

^ There’s really no telling you how CREEPY this was. It was like a scene straight out of Kubrick’s The Shining. I’m only about halfway up the mountain pass about now, but the trees in the snow make a PROFOUNDLY silent scene.

^ Starting to ascend. It’s a strange scene to see all this snow when you’re used to going up the pass exclusively in the summertime, when everything is alive and hopping.

^ Some plains at the halfway mark, headed westbound.

^ Just to give an idea as to how much snow was up there. It got higher and higher as I moved closer to the top.

^ I think this one was taken as I started to descend.

^ The sign for the pass at it’s highest elevation, buried in snow. Now, I realize 2,855 feet is NOT high at all, alright? But consider the ocean is only about an hour away. And the scenery and wildlife is so worth it.

Speaking of wildlife, I did see a moose this day. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the scene, some passer-bys had already frightened him into the thick forest and he was only visable if you watched for movement. I tried to take a video, but that obviously showed nothing.

I have seen a moose almost every time I’ve gone up this pass, so if you’re looking for a GREAT place to see the wildlife of New Hampshire, this’d be it.

In the summertime, we try and make the mountain pass for dawn as so we can catch the moose. My sister used to have video of a moose we found who stood calmly about 12 feet from us. Some jackass in her dorm decided to record over it. Sigh.

So yea. There’s the Kancamagus. I would have gotten photos of Sebago Lake and The Swift River, but everything was still snowed in. At the time, I was sincerely NOT dressed for snow travel. ^_^

So I have this plan.

My boyfriend and I travel all over New England nearly every weekend, provided the weather is good. We are simple people who are naturally simply amused.

I’ll start this blog with this weekend’s “adventure,” but I’ll try to update it with past adventures. We’ve been together since June of 06, so I imagine there will be a lot of updating to do.

I can’t promise that this blog will be only adventures, but for now, I think it’s the best way to go.

May the games begin.

Give Chris a body of water and plenty of rocks to throw, and he’s entertained for an indefinite amount of time.

Give me the mountains and rivers and I’ll play in the plants and the rocks until I get bored – which is never.

So today, we went up to the Mohawk Trail near North Adams. Here we go:

Shelburne Falls – Salmon Falls. People actually swim here on the VERY smooth rocks in the summer, when the spring floods are over with.

Some of the rock at the bottom. I wish he had taken pictures of the actual swimming area.

At the top of the mountain pass on the Mohawk. There used to be a gift shop here, but apparently, it closed. It was REALLY shit weather at the top. We were lucky to even get this shot in, as within 20 minutes, the fog moved in.

I have no idea what he was saying here, but it’s a hilarious expression.

I LIEK MOUNTAINS

Further down the mountain on our way back, we stopped to play in the river. We can never go ANYWHERE without playing in some kind of water. And before anyone mentions the skirt, yes, I KNOW its all weird here. There IS a reason, but I am not stating it here and now.

I also really wanted to go in this river. I usually have no issue throwing off the shoes and getting right in there, but this river is APTLY named “The Cold River.” Yea, no thanks.

YES. A RIVER. WITH LOTS OF ROCKS. I WILL THROW THEM.

HA HA FOUND SOME.

I DID THROW ROCK. TAKE THAT RIVER.

HM. NEEDS MORE ROCKS.

Pretty river~

We should take more lame pictures of ourselves!

There is a CAR in the distance.

It is a tunnel of TREES.

“Offensive Speech” is offensive.

Thats what they’re calling it anymore, it seems: speech which is offensive. Reasonable.

But you know, the only thing about “offensive speech” is that it’s ha ha OFFENSIVE.

It’s not against the law to be offensive. At least, not to MY knowledge.

We’re so worked up socially by bad words, offensive ideas, or offensive (yet harmless) actions. I understand you have feelings! I understand you don’t like to be hurt by said “offensive speech!” But didn’t your Mommy and Daddy ever tell you that life isn’t always fair? It’s not always kind?

As a nation, we need to get over being offended by the slightest thing. We need to learn how to relax, unfurl, appreciate. Pick your battles! I assure you, “offensive speech” is not worth it, since we’re all entitled to it.

Simple solution? If you can’t handle what you hear, don’t listen.
